Zednik

Hockey only really gets good press if some one got suspended for more than 20 games or there is some freak accident.  The other day isn't much different.  Richard Zednik is an awesome player for the panthers and the other night going into the corner his team mate fell in front of him and cut his neck with his skate.  Doctors said today that the artery was hanging by a thread when they operated which probably saved his life.  Had the cut been worse they would have had to find both loose ends and then reattach them, at which time his brain would have been cut off from blood for too long.  Zednik, in an incredible feat of strength and toughness skated over to the bench on his own power to get attention.  The game stopped for 15 minutes and only started back up after the blood was scraped up and a zambonie was brought out to resurface the ice.  the teams did not go back on the ice till they had heard that they had stopped the bleeding.
i can't even imagine the thought that were going on in his head at the time.  to hold your open neck in your hands has to be an incredibly sobering moment. especially when you were just playing an intense game just moments before. i am in awe of this happening and in the past 48 hours can not stop thinking about this.  I don't pray so i'm going to hope that Zednik plays again some day after all these stitches.  He's a great player but now he won't be remembered for his ability but for this incident.
